The reciter: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The chapter on encouraging the increase of good deeds in the latter part of life. Allah the Exalted said:
But did We not grant you life enough for whoever would remember therein to remember, and the warner had come to you? أولم نعمركم ما يتذكر فيه من تذكر وجاءكم النذير
[Fatir 35:37]
Ibn Abbas and the scholars of certainty said: Its meaning is that We have given you a lifespan of sixty years. This is supported by the hadith that we will mention, if Allah wills. It was also said: Its meaning is eighteen years. It was also said: Forty years, as stated by al-Hasan, al-Kalbi, and Masruq, and it was also narrated from Ibn Abbas. They also reported that the people of Madinah, when one of them reached forty years of age, would devote himself to worship. It was also said: It refers to reaching maturity. And regarding His saying, the Exalted:
And the Warner came to you وجاءكم النذير
Ibn Abbas and the majority said: It is the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). It was also said: It is gray hair, as stated by Ikrimah, Ibn Uyaynah, and others. And Allah knows best."
