The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The chapter on encouraging the abundance of deeds" deeds of goodness "in the latter part of life" Know that the focus is on the end of one's life, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 2643a For this reason, it is among the well-known supplications: And it is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that: Therefore, what a person should do, as his life grows longer, is to increase in righteous deeds. It is also incumbent upon the young person to increase in righteous deeds, for a person does not know when he will die; he may die in his youth, or his death may be delayed. However, there is no doubt that one who has advanced in age is closer to death than the young person, for he has completed his lifespan. Then the author quoted the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Fatir 35:37] The scholars of exegesis differed regarding this lifespan; some said it is sixty years, some said eighteen years, some said forty years, and some said it is reaching maturity. The verse is general: they were given a lifespan in which they have an opportunity to remember, in which whoever remembers would remember. This varies according to circumstances; a person may remember in less than eighteen years, or he may not remember until after that, depending on the warnings and signs that come to him and the environment around him, whether it is a righteous environment or not. The important point is that it is said to them as a rebuke: [Fatir 35:37]
And in this is evidence that the longer a person's life becomes, the more he is entitled to remember. As for the saying of Allah the Exalted: the correct view is that the "warner" refers to the Prophet, which is a generic term that includes the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and includes all the messengers before him, all of whom are warners, peace and blessings be upon them.
It is obligatory for a person to strive in the last part of his life to increase in the obedience of Allah, especially what Allah has made obligatory upon him, and to increase in seeking forgiveness and praising Allah, as Allah the Exalted said to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):[An-Nasr 110:1-3] It is said that this surah is the last surah revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
And in it is a strange story. The Ansar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to say to the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab: "Why do you bring forward Abdullah ibn Abbas, who is among the youth, and not bring forward our youth?" And 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would place people in their proper positions in knowledge and religion; whoever was more knowledgeable and more pious was closer to the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar. And this is how a person should be; his advancement should be based on the knowledge and religion he possesses. Kinship has a right, no doubt, but knowledge and religion are the greatest means of closeness to a person over others. The important point is: "The Ansar said to the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): Why do you bring forward Abdullah ibn Abbas and not bring forward our youth? He said to them: Give me time. Then he gathered them one day and said to them: What do you say about the saying of Allah the Exalted:[An-Nasr 110:1-3] They said: We say that Allah said to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him): When victory comes and Makkah is opened, then glorify with the praise of your Lord and seek His forgiveness, for he was one who repented." Meaning, they interpreted it by its apparent meaning. "He said: What do you say, O Ibn Abbas? He said: I say that this surah is the announcement of the death of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Meaning, it indicates that his term has approached, so he understood. This is a wonderful understanding, may Allah be pleased with him. Meaning, when victory and the opening come, you have fulfilled what is upon you; you have fulfilled what is upon you. Conclude your life with seeking forgiveness and glorifying with the praise of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), after this surah was revealed to him, used to say frequently in his bowing and prostration: Sahih al-Bukhari 4293 O Allah, forgive me. He said this more in bowing and prostration than the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do. We ask Allah to make our endings and outcomes good, and to make the best of our lives their ends and the best of our deeds their conclusions."
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The chapter on encouraging the abundance of deeds" deeds of goodness "in the latter part of life" Know that the focus is on the end of one's life, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
that one amongst you acts like the people deserving Paradise until between him and Paradise there remains but the distance of a cubit, when suddenly the writing of destiny overcomes him and he begins to act like the denizens of Hell and thus enters Hell, and another one acts in the way of the denizens of Hell, until there remains between him and Hell a distance of a cubit that the writing of destiny overcomes him and then he begins to act like the people of Paradise and enters Paradise.
O Allah, make the best of my life its end, and the best of my deeds their conclusions.
That whoever's last words from this world are "There is no god but Allah" will enter Paradise.
But did We not grant you life enough for whoever would remember therein to remember
And the Warner came to you
But did We not grant you life enough for whoever would remember therein to remember
And in this is evidence that the longer a person's life becomes, the more he is entitled to remember. As for the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And the Warner came to you
It is obligatory for a person to strive in the last part of his life to increase in the obedience of Allah, especially what Allah has made obligatory upon him, and to increase in seeking forgiveness and praising Allah, as Allah the Exalted said to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
(1) When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest, (2) And you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes, (3) Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.
And in it is a strange story.
