Reading the statement of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he transmitted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted "from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said: 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to include me with the elders of Badr. So some of them felt something in their hearts and said: Why does he include us with this one, when we have sons like him? 'Umar said: He is from where you know! One day he called me and included me with them. I did not think he called me that day except to show them. He said: What do you say about the saying of Allah the Exalted:
When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest, إذا جاء نصر الله والفتح
[An-Nasr 110:1]
? Some of them said: We are commanded to praise Allah and seek His forgiveness when He gives us victory and opens [the enemy] to us. Some of them remained silent and said nothing. He said to me: Do you say that, O Ibn Abbas? I said: No. He said: What do you say? I said: It is the term of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and He informed him of it. He said:
When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest, إذا جاء نصر الله والفتح
[An-Nasr 110:1]
, and that is the sign of your term:
Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance. فسبح بحمد ربك واستغفره إنه كان توابا
[An-Nasr 110:3]
. 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I do not know of it except what you say. Narrated by al-Bukhari"
