The reciter: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. Al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Chapter: Whoever reaches the age of sixty, Allah has excused him regarding his lifespan. By His saying, the Exalted: [Fatir 35:37]
The Shaykh : His saying, the Exalted:[Fatir 35:37] This contains a rebuke of the people of the Fire. The argument will be established against them from two aspects: the first is natural, and the second is legislative. As for the natural aspect, Allah extended their lifespan until they reached an age in which one who reflects would reflect. That is, He did not hasten their death so that they would say, “By Allah, we were not given a span of time in which to reflect.” Rather, they were given a respite in which to reflect. This includes the length of life, the events that befall a person, and the calamities, so that they may take a lesson from them. For calamities must be a lesson for hearts, and people should take a lesson from them, for Allah the Exalted says: [Ar-Rum 30:41] This is also something in which a person lives a life in which he takes a lesson. As for the legislative argument, the legislative proof, He said: And that is the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). The address is to every nation according to its circumstance. The Warner for the nation of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib, the Qurayshi, the Hashimite, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him. For the other nations, other than this nation, their Warner is their Messenger. Every nation had a Warner among them, and the argument was established against them. So when they are rebuked with this rebuke, they will increase in regret, may Allah protect us from that, and they will say, “Oh, how great is the regret! Oh, how great is the sorrow! Why did we not take a lesson? The Warner came to us, and we lived a life in which we were able to take a lesson and be admonished.”
But did We not grant you life enough for whoever would remember therein to remember, and the warner had come to you?
