The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) stated, in what he quoted from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) in order to become energetic, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: meaning, remove it and take it away. Then he said: Sunan an-Nasa'i 1643Sahih (Darussalam), so in this is evidence that it is not befitting for a person to be excessive or to strain himself in worship, or to burden himself with what he cannot bear. Rather, he should pray as long as he is energetic, and if he becomes tired, he should lie down and sleep. Because if he prays while tired, his thoughts become confused, and he may come to dislike the worship and become bored and weary. He may even go to make du'a for himself, only to find that he is making du'a against himself. For example, if he prostrates and drowsiness overtakes him, he may intend to say, “O Allah, forgive me,” but instead say, “O Allah, do not forgive me,” because he is sleepy. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the cutting of this rope, and ordered us that a person should pray while he is energetic, and if he becomes tired, he should lie down. And although this was mentioned regarding prayer, it encompasses all actions: do not burden yourself with what you cannot bear. Rather, treat yourself with gentleness and softness, and do not rush. Do not rush matters; matters may be delayed for a wisdom that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) intends. Do not say, “I want to exhaust myself.” Wait and give yourself what is due, and then the intended result will be achieved. Also included in this is what some students do; you find, for example, that one studies his lessons while drowsy. He tires himself out, yet he gains nothing. Because the one who reviews while drowsy does not benefit, and even if he thinks he is benefiting, he is not benefiting at all. For this reason, it is befitting that when a person is overcome by drowsiness while reviewing books, whether they are school curriculum books or otherwise, he should close the book and sleep and rest. This applies to all times, even if a person is overcome by drowsiness after the 'Asr prayer and wants to lie down and rest, there is no blame on him. Or after the Fajr prayer and he wants to lie down and rest, there is no blame on him. Whenever sleep comes to you, sleep. Whenever you become energetic, work. [Ash-Sharh 94:7-8] Make all matters easy for yourself, except for what Allah has made obligatory upon you, which must be performed at its designated time. As for voluntary matters, the ruling is broad; do not exhaust yourself in anything. We ask Allah to help us and you in His remembrance, His gratitude, and the excellence of His worship.
