Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted: "From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Of the dinar you spend as a contribution in Allah's path, or to set free a slave, or as a sadaqa given to a needy, or to support your family, the one yielding the greatest reward is that which you spent on your family.
Sahih Muslim 995
, Muslim narrated it.
And from Abu 'Abdullah, who is also called Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The most excellent dinar a man spends is one he spends on his family, one which he spends on his animal in God’s path, and one he spends on his companions in God’s path.
Mishkat al-Masabih 1932
, narrated by Muslim.
And from Umm Salimah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:
I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, do I have a reward for spending on the sons of Abu Sulaymah? I am not going to leave them like this or like that; they are my sons.' He said: 'Yes, you have a reward for whatever you spend on them.'
, agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), in his long hadith which we mentioned at the beginning of the book in the chapter on intention, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:
And you will not spend any expenditure seeking the Face of Allah but you will be rewarded for it, even what you put in your wife's mouth.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 54:4
, agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And from Abu Mas'ud al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
When a man spends on his family, seeking reward for that, that is an act of charity on his part.
Sunan an-Nasa'i 2545Sahih (Darussalam)
, agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
It is sufficient sin for a man that he neglects him whom he maintains.
Sunan Abi Dawud 1692Hasan (Al-Albani)
: This is an authentic hadith narrated by Abu Dawud and others, and Muslim narrated it in his Sahih with its meaning, saying:
This sin is enough for a man that he withholds the subsistence from one whose master he is.
Sahih Muslim 996
.
And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There is never a day wherein servants (of God) get up at morn, but are not visited by two angels. One of them says: 0 Allah, give him more who spends (for the sake of Allah), and the other says: 0 Allah, bring destruction to one who withholds.
Sahih Muslim 1010
, agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And from him (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
The upper hand is better than the lower hand (i.e. he who gives in charity is better than him who takes it). One should start giving first to his dependents. And the best object of charity is that which is given by a wealthy person (from the money which is left after his expenses). And whoever abstains from asking others for some financial help, Allah will give him and save him from asking others, Allah will make him self-sufficient.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1427, 1428
, narrated by al-Bukhari "
