The reciter: In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted: "From 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Let those who are sedate and prudent be near me, then those who are next to them (saying it tliree tinies), and beware of the tumult of the markets. ليلني منكم أولوا الأحلام والنهى ثم الذين يلونهم ثلاثاً، وإياكم وهيشات الأسواق
Sahih Muslim 432c
, narrated by Muslim.
And from Sahl ibn Abi Hathmah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:
`Abdullah bin Sahl and Muhaiyisa bin Mas`ud bin Zaid set out to Khaibar, the inhabitants of which had a peace treaty with the Muslims at that time. They parted and later on Muhaiyisa came upon `Abdullah bin Sah! and found him murdered agitating in his blood. He buried him and returned to Medina. `Abdur Rahman bin Sahl, Muhaiyisa and Huwaiuisa, the sons of Mas`ud came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and `Abdur Rahman intended to talk, but the Prophet (ﷺ) said (to him), "Let the eldest of you speak." as `Abdur-Rahman was the youngest:. `Abdur-Rahman kept silent and the other two spoke. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If you swear as to who has committed the murder, انطلق عبد الله بن سهل ومحيصة ابن مسعود إلى خيبر، وهي يومئذٍ صلح، فتفرقا، فأتى محيصة إلى عبد الله بن سهل وهو يتشحط في دمه قتيلاً فدفنه، ثم قدم المدينة فانطلق عبد الرحمن بن سهل ومحيصة وحويصة ابنا مسعود إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فذهب عبد الرحمن يتكلم، فقال: كَبِّر كبر، وهو أحدث القوم فسكت فتكلما فقال: أتحلفون وتستحقون قاتلكم؟
Sahih al-Bukhari 3173
, agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him):
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to combine two men from the martyrs of Uhud—meaning in the grave—then he would say: "Which of them recited more of the Qur'an?" And when one of them was pointed out to him, he would place him in the grave first
, narrated by al-Bukhari.
And from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I had a dream in which I was using a tooth-stick, when two men, one older than the other, came to me. I handed the tooth-stick to the younger of the two and was told to respect the senior, so I handed it to the older. أُراني في المنام أتسوك بسواك، فجاءني رجلان أحدهما أكبر من الآخر، فناولت السواك الأصغر فقيل لي: كبر فدفعته إلى الأكبر منهما
Mishkat al-Masabih 385

And from Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Glorifying Allah involves showing honour to a grey-haired Muslim and to one who can expound the Qur'an, but not to one who acts extravagantly regarding it, or turns away from it, and showing honour to a just ruler. إنَّ مِن إجلال الله تعالى إكرام ذي الشيبة المسلم ، وحامل القرآن غير الغالي فيه والجافي عنه ، وإكرام ذي السلطان المقسط
Sunan Abi Dawud 4843Hasan (Al-Albani)
