The reciter: He said -may Allah have mercy on him-: " The Chapter on the Virtue of Hope:
Allah the Exalted said, reporting the words of the righteous servant:[Ghafir 40:44-45] .
And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said:Sahih Muslim 2675h , agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And from Jabir ibn 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both), that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say, three days before his death:Sahih Muslim 2877c , narrated by Muslim.
And from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: , narrated by al-Tirmidhi, who said: It is a good hadith ".
The Shaykh : The author said - (may Allah have mercy on him) - :
" The Chapter on the Virtue of Hope ": When he (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned the texts indicating hope and the vastness of Allah’s favor and generosity, he mentioned the virtue of hope, and that a person should be ambitious for the favor of Allah the Mighty and Majestic, hoping for what is with Him. Then he mentioned the words of the righteous servant, who is the believing man from the family of Pharaoh, who concealed his faith, and who was sincere to his people, advising them and explaining to them with proofs the falsehood upon which his people were, and the truth upon which Moses was. In the end, he said:[Ghafir 40:44]: I commit my affair to Allah, meaning I make it entrusted to Him, I do not rely on anyone else, and I do not hope in anyone but Him. [Ghafir 40:44], Allah the Exalted said: [Ghafir 40:45] meaning: the evil of their plotting, [Ghafir 40:45] .
Then he mentioned the hadith of Abu Hurayrah that Allah the Exalted said in the Qudsi hadith:Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 616 , Sahih al-Bukhari 7505: meaning that Allah is as His servant thinks of Him; if he thinks well of Him, that is for him, and if he thinks otherwise, that is for him. But when does one have a good opinion of Allah the Mighty and Majestic? One has a good opinion of Allah when a person does what necessitates Allah’s favor and hope, by doing good deeds and having a good opinion of Allah that Allah the Exalted will accept them. As for having a good opinion of Allah while not doing anything, this is from the category of wishing upon Allah. And whoever follows his own desires and wishes upon the hopes, he is weak.
Having a good opinion [of Allah] is that there is found in a person an action that necessitates a good opinion of Allah the Mighty and Majestic. For example, if you pray, you have a good opinion of Allah that He will accept it from you; if you fast, likewise; if you give charity, likewise; if you do a good deed, you have a good opinion that Allah the Exalted will accept it from you. As for having a good opinion of Allah while openly defying Him with disobedience, this is the habit of the weak who have no capital to return to. Then he mentioned that Allah, Glorified and Exalted, is more generous than His servant: if a person draws near to Allah a hand’s span, Allah draws near to him an arm’s span; if he draws near to Him an arm’s span, He draws near to him an outstretched arm; and if he comes to Him walking, He comes to him running, the Mighty and Majestic. So He is more generous and quicker to respond than His servant.
These hadiths and their like are what the people of the Sunnah and the community believe in as being true reality for Allah the Mighty and Majestic, but we do not know how this running is, or how this drawing near is. It is a matter whose modality is referred to Allah, and it is not for us to speak about it, but we believe in its meaning and we refer its modality to Allah the Mighty and Majestic.
Then the author mentioned hadiths in this meaning, all of which indicate that a person should have a good opinion of Allah, Glorified and Exalted, but while doing the causes that necessitate it. We ask Allah the Exalted to guide us and you to what is good and righteous in this world and the Hereafter.
Allah the Exalted said, reporting the words of the righteous servant:
(44) And you will remember what I [now] say to you, and I entrust my affair to Allah. Indeed, Allah is Seeing of [His] servants." (45) So Allah protected him from the evils they plotted, and the people of Pharaoh were enveloped by the worst of punishment -
وأفوض أمري إلى الله إن الله بصير بالعباد * فوقاه الله سيئات ما مكرواAnd from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said:
Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: I live in the thought of My servant and I am with him as he remembers Me. (The Holy Prophet) further said: By Allah, Allah is more pleased wth the repentance of His servant than what one of you would do on finding the lost camel in the waterless desert. When he draws near Me by the span of his hand. I draw near him by the length of a cubit and when he draws near Me by the length of a cubit. I draw near him by the length of a fathom and when he draws near Me walking I draw close to him hurriedly.
And from Jabir ibn 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both), that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say, three days before his death:
None of you should die but hoping only good from Allah, the Exalted and Glorious.
لا يموتَن أحدكم إلا وهو يحسن الظن بالله عز وجلAnd from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
Allah the Exalted said: O son of Adam, as long as you call upon Me and hope in Me, I will forgive you for what you have done, and I do not care. O son of Adam, if your sins were to reach the sky, then you sought My forgiveness, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, if you came to Me with sins as much as the earth, then met Me not associating anything with Me, I would come to you with forgiveness as much as that.
The Shaykh : The author said - (may Allah have mercy on him) - :
