The Shaykh : Mus'ab was a young man who was with his parents in Makkah, and his parents were wealthy; his mother and father would dress him in the finest clothes, the attire of youth and young men, and they spoiled him greatly. When he embraced Islam, they abandoned him and exiled him, and he emigrated with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he was with the emigrants. He was wearing a patched garment, whereas in Makkah with his parents he used to wear the finest clothes, but he left all of that, emigrating to Allah and His Messenger, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the banner on the day of Uhud, so he was martyred (may Allah be pleased with him). He had with him a burdah: a garment; if they covered his head with it, his feet would be exposed because it was short, and if they covered his feet with it, his head would be exposed.
So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that his head be covered with it, and that his feet be covered with the idhkhar. فأمر النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلّم أن يستر به رأسه، وأن تستر رجلاه بالإذخر
: a known plant. So 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf would mention the condition of this man and then say: "They have passed on and were saved from what Allah opened up for those after them of the abundant spoils of war", as the Exalted said:
And much war booty which they will take ومغانم كثيرة يأخذونها
[Al-Fath 48:19]
And 'Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I fear that our good deeds have been hastened for us", because the disbeliever is rewarded for his good deeds in this world, and for him in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire, and the believer may be rewarded in this world and the Hereafter, but the reward of the Hereafter is the more important. So he feared (may Allah be pleased with him) that their good deeds had been hastened for them in this world, and he wept out of fear and dread, then he left the food (may Allah be pleased with him). In this is evidence for weeping out of fear of Allah and dread of His punishment. And success is from Allah.
