Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted: "From Nafi':
That 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) had assigned four thousand to the first emigrants and three thousand five hundred to his son. It was said to him: 'He is one of the emigrants, so why did you reduce his share?' He said: 'His father emigrated with him,' meaning: He is not like one who emigrated on his own.
Al-Bukhari narrated it.
And from 'Atiyyah ibn 'Urwah al-Sa'di, the Companion (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A person will not reach the status of being one of those who have piety until he refrains from doing something in which there is no sin, for fear of falling into something in which there is sin. لا يبلغ العبد أن يكون من المتقين حتى يدع ما لا بأس به حذراً مما به بأس
Sunan Ibn Majah 4215Hasan (Darussalam)
, Al-Tirmidhi narrated it and said: It is a good hadith"
.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said in the book *Riyad al-Salihin*: "Chapter on Scrupulousness and Avoiding Doubtful Matters": In what he quoted from Nafi', from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, assigned the people their shares from the public treasury, giving the emigrants four thousand and his son 'Abdullah three thousand five hundred. His son 'Abdullah was an emigrant, so he reduced his share from the emigrants by five hundred from four thousand. It was said to him: 'He is one of the emigrants, so why did you reduce his share?' He said: "His father emigrated with him, and he did not emigrate on his own", and one who emigrated with his father is not like one who emigrated on his own. This indicates greatly the extreme scrupulousness of the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). And so it is obligatory for whoever takes charge of any of the affairs of the Muslims not to favor a relative because of his kinship, nor a rich person because of his wealth, nor a poor person because of his poverty, but rather to place each person in his proper position. This is part of scrupulousness and justice. And 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar did not say: 'O my father, I am an emigrant, and if I had wished, I would have remained in Makkah.' Rather, he agreed to what his father assigned for him.
As for the last hadith in this chapter, it is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, it is part of complete certainty and mindfulness of Allah for a person to leave what is permissible out of fear of what is forbidden. إن من تمام اليقين والتقوى أن يدع الإنسان ما لا بأس به حذرا مما به بأس
: This is in the case where a permissible thing is confused with a forbidden one and distinguishing between them is difficult. It is part of complete certainty and mindfulness of Allah to leave the lawful out of fear of falling into the forbidden. This is an obligatory matter, as the scholars said: "If a permissible thing is confused with a forbidden one, it is obligatory to avoid both, because avoiding the forbidden is obligatory, and it is not achieved except by avoiding the permissible, and whatever is not achieved except by it is obligatory". But if one is compelled to take one of them, he may exercise caution in this situation and take what is most likely to be correct. Let us suppose that another person's food is confused with his own, but he is compelled to eat. In this situation, he exercises caution and eats what he is most likely to believe is his own food. And success is from Allah.
