Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then he mentioned the hadith of Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah (may Allah be pleased with both of them), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
When the revenues of Bahrain will arrive, I shall give you such and such and such. لو قد جاء مال البحرين أعطيتك هكذا وهكذا وهكذا
Riyad as-Salihin 690
: The wealth of Bahrain means the wealth of al-Hasa and its neighboring areas; all of it was called Bahrain in that era. He says:
When the revenues of Bahrain will arrive, I shall give you such and such and such. لو قد جاء مال البحرين أعطيتك هكذا وهكذا وهكذا
Riyad as-Salihin 690
: He said this with his hands (peace and blessings be upon him). This is a promise from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) to Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah that he would give him from the wealth of Bahrain this much, and this much, and this much. When the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away before the wealth of Bahrain arrived, and the Caliph was Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) by the consensus of the Companions, who all pledged allegiance to him as the Caliph after the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), the wealth of Bahrain arrived during the caliphate of Abu Bakr. So he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Whoever has a promise or a debt with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), let him come to us" : A promise means a pledge, or a debt means owed to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), because it is possible that the Messenger had bought something from someone and thus owed a debt, or had promised someone something. In fact, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away while his armor was pledged to a Jewish man in Medina for thirty sa' of barley, which he had bought for his family (peace and blessings be upon him). So he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not have any money; he was not a collector of wealth, and no money remained with him except the amount he distributed among the Muslims. The important point is that Abu Bakr called out: "Whoever has a promise or a debt with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), let him come to us" : So Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Abu Bakr and said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
If the wealth of Bahrain were to come, I would give you this much, and this much, and this much. So he said: "Take it." So he took it in his hands and counted it, and it was five hundred. So he said: "Take twice that amount." لو قد جاء مال البحرين لأعطيتك هكذا وهكذا وهكذا، فقال: خذ، فأخذ بيديه فعدّها فإذا هي خمسمائة، فقال: خذ مثليها
, because the Messenger said:
This much, and this much, and this much هكذا وهكذا وهكذا
three times. So Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) gave him the promise that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) had made to him.
