The ruling on one who began fasting as expiation for a mistake and then found a slave to free

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: A man had an expiation for killing a soul. After he had started fasting and fasted four days, he was informed of the availability of a slave to free. He stopped fasting and then freed the slave. Is there anything required of him in this, since he left off fasting after he had committed to it? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer: This is what is obligatory for him, and there is no blame on him in this; because freeing a slave takes precedence over fasting—provided one has the ability—due to the saying of the Exalted:
And those who pronounce thihar from their wives and then [wish to] go back on what they said - then [there must be] the freeing of a slave before they touch one anotherوَالَّذِينَ يُظَاهِرُونَ مِن نِّسَائِهِمْ ثُمَّ يَعُودُونَ لِمَا قَالُوا فَتَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَتَمَاسَّا
[Al-Mujadila 58:3]
