Ruling on one who says to his wife: If you go out, do not come back

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I said to my wife: If you leave the house without my permission, do not come back. I intended by this to prevent her from going out, and I did not think of divorce or anything like it at the time. Now I fear that my wife may be forced to go out and I may not know about her going out. Is what happened an oath that I can expiate now? Or what is required of me? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.

Answer: This statement is in the ruling of an oath, and if she goes out, you must pay the expiation for an oath, and no divorce takes place on her because of it.
And if you had intended at the time of this statement—except with your permission—then there is no expiation on you if you gave her permission; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “Actions are only by intentions,” and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):

, and success is from Allah.
