Question:
I read in (Tafsir al-Sabuni), at the verse of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Qalam: 42], that he interpreted it and said: “In the hadith: ‘Every believing man and woman will prostrate to Allah.’” But when I returned to (Sahih al-Bukhari), I found the hadith says: “Our Lord will uncover His leg; so every believing man and woman will prostrate to Him.”
Al-Sabuni omitted the first part of the hadith. Is that permissible for him? And what is this action called, especially if it was intentional?
Answer:
In any case, this is an error and a mistake, and it is obligatory for him and for others to clarify the truth. The hadith is: The scholars differed regarding the verse “uncover His leg.” Some of them said: “uncover severity.” But the authentic hadith came explaining the verse in a way that does not allow contradicting the hadith, and the meaning is that He uncovers His leg.
And Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) is described with that in the manner befitting Him , just as He is described with a Face, a Hand, a Foot, fingers, and an Eye. Likewise, He is described with a leg in the manner befitting Him , without resembling the creation in any of His attributes. And it is not permissible for a scholar to hide the truth, or to interpret it with a false interpretation. And Allah is the One to be sought for help.
