Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the truth regarding the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
The Day the shin will be uncovered and they are invited to prostration but the disbelievers will not be able,يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَنْ سَاقٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
[Al-Qalam: 42]?

Answer:
The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) explained this to mean the Day when the Lord comes on the Day of Resurrection and uncovers His leg to the nation, the sign between them and Him (Mighty and Majestic). When He uncovers His leg, they will recognize Him and follow Him. Although it is said that a war "uncovers its leg" when it becomes severe, this is a known linguistic meaning mentioned by the linguists. However, in the noble verse, it should be interpreted according to what came in the noble hadith, which is the uncovering of the Lord’s leg (Mighty and Majestic).
This is among the attributes that befit Allah, in which He, (Exalted and Majestic is He), does not resemble His creation, just as with the other attributes. He is described as having hands, a foot, an eye, mercy, satisfaction, anger, hearing, and sight. All of these are true attributes, all of which befit Allah, (Exalted and Majestic is He), in which He does not resemble His creation (Mighty and Majestic). The servant is also described with these: he is described with hearing and sight and an eye, with satisfaction and anger, and with a hand and a foot. But the attribute is not like the attribute. Allah the Exalted said:
There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ
[Al-Shura: 11],
Nor is there to Him any equivalent."وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ
[Al-Ikhlas: 4].
Thus,
the shin will be uncoveredيكشف عن ساق
[Al-Qalam 68:42]
the path is one, just as His hand does not resemble hands, and His hearing does not resemble hearing, and so it is with His knowledge, and so it is with His mercy, and so it is with His anger, and so it is with His satisfaction. Thus, His uncovering of His leg and His description with it does not resemble the legs of the servants or the uncovering of the servants, but rather it is something that befits Allah, in which He does not resemble His creation (Mighty and Majestic). He has the most beautiful names and the highest attributes in the manner befitting Him, (Exalted and Majestic is He), according to the people of the Sunnah, and He does not resemble His creation in any of His attributes, (Exalted and Majestic is He).
