Ruling on paying the expiation for an oath to the mujahideen
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I paid the expiation for an oath with 100 riyals and placed it in an account to assist the Afghan mujahideen. Is this sufficient in place of feeding ten poor people? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
It is not sufficient to pay the amount mentioned as expiation for an oath; because that contradicts the explicit text in His saying (peace and blessings be upon him) in Surat al-Ma'idah: [al-Ma'idah:89], and success is from Allah.

Answer:
It is not sufficient to pay the amount mentioned as expiation for an oath; because that contradicts the explicit text in His saying (peace and blessings be upon him) in Surat al-Ma'idah:
Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of oaths. So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people from the average of that which you feed your [own] families or clothing them or the freeing of a slave. But whoever cannot find [or afford it] - then a fast of three days [is required]. That is the expiation for oaths when you have sworn
