The stingy father: taking from his wealth in a customary manner

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: Is it permissible for children to take from their father's wealth without his knowledge?

Answer: It is not permissible for children to take from their father's wealth without his knowledge, except for what is necessitated by the known needs of their peers, if he is stingy with it, and they are unable to provide for themselves from their own wealth, and he does not spend on them the obligatory maintenance; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to Hind bint 'Utbah, the wife of Abu Sufyan ibn Harith (may Allah be pleased with them both), when she complained to him (peace and blessings be upon him), saying: "Abu Sufyan is a man who does not give me from the maintenance what suffices me and my children, except what I take from his wealth without his knowledge." He answered her (peace and blessings be upon him) by saying:
Take from his property what is customary which may suffice you and your children.خذي من ماله بالمعروف ما يكفيك ويكفي بنيك
Sahih Muslim 1714a
. It is agreed upon as authentic.
And the meaning of "in a customary manner" is: the thing that is customary in the maintenance of their peers, without extravagance or waste.
