Ruling on a woman taking from her husband's money without his permission

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a woman takes from her husband's money without his permission with the intention of preserving the wealth, even though he does not fall short in providing for her, but he is excessive in spending, what is the ruling on this?

Answer:
The woman in this case is rewarded if she helps him to be economical and avoid extravagance. If he brings money for maintenance, she preserves some of it for his sake and for the sake of necessity. Such a woman is rewarded and thanked, and how few are those who do this.
In any case, if she takes from the money he brings for maintenance and preserves some of it, buys necessities for the house with some of it, and is economical in expenses, then she is thanked and rewarded. She is allowed to take from his money for her needs if he is stingy—as you heard in the seminar—she is allowed to take from his money what suffices her and her children in a proper manner.
Husbands differ: some are generous, some are extravagant, some are stingy, and some are moderate. If the woman is righteous, she should strive to preserve from his money what benefits him when he gives her money for food, drinks, and the like, or for her clothing. She preserves from it what benefits her and him, spends what is needed, does not be extravagant, and does not be stingy, but stays in between.
And if he is stingy and he is miserly, she is allowed to take from his money in a proper manner without his knowledge what suffices her and her children, as established in the two Sahihs in the hadith of Hind bint 'Utbah, the wife of Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with them both), that she complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, Abu Sufyan is a stingy man; he does not give us what suffices me and my children. Do I have a dispensation to take from his money what suffices me and my children?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Take from his property what is customary which may suffice you and your children.نعم، خذي من ماله بالمعروف، خذي من ماله بالمعروف ما يكفيك، ويكفي بنيك
Sahih Muslim 1714a
He said:
in a good mannerبالمعروف
meaning in the customary manner, which involves no extravagance and no excess that harms him, but rather the amount of her need, for her clothing, for her children's clothing, and for food, only what is needed.
