The reciter: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
He (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Chapter on the etiquettes of traveling, stopping, lodging, and sleeping while on a journey, and the recommendation of being gentle with riding animals and considering their benefit, and the command for one who falls short in their rights to fulfill those rights, and the permissibility of riding together on a single animal if it is capable of bearing that:
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Riyad as-Salihin 962 Muslim narrated it."
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in this chapter many etiquettes related to travel and riding animals. This is because when a traveler travels on a riding animal, whether it is a beast of burden from camels, donkeys, mules, or horses, he must consider its benefit, for he is accountable for it. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), during the Farewell Pilgrimage, was riding his she-camel and had tied its reins. Whenever he reached a high point among the elevations, he would loosen them slightly so that it could climb. Among the etiquettes is that when a person travels in times of abundance, he should be deliberate in his journey, meaning he should not travel with haste, but give the camels their right of grazing. For if he walks slowly, it allows the camels to graze. If the land is grassy and fertile and you are on camels, do not hasten your journey; let the camels go right and left to graze at their leisure, so that they may attain their share of the abundance. However, if the situation is the opposite and the year is one of drought, the requirement is to hasten to reach the camels' marrow. The camels' marrow means their fat, for if you delay in the journey and the land is barren with no grazing, the duration of the journey will lengthen and their fat will be consumed. If you hasten, you will reach the town where there is fodder and provisions for the animals. This is part of the wisdom of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and that Allah the Exalted has given him the interests of caring for the children of Adam and for the beasts, where he (peace and blessings be upon him) guided travelers to this guidance: in abundance, be deliberate in the journey; in drought, hasten in the journey. He also commanded that when we make camp at night, meaning we stop at night to rest and sleep, we should not sleep on the road, meaning on the main path, for it is the path of the animals. People travel on this road, and perhaps a person may come inattentively and step on this sleeper on the road. Also, it is the refuge of crawling creatures. Crawling creatures come around the roads because if something of food falls from someone, they eat it. For this reason, crawling creatures are often found on roads. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded that we not sleep on the roads, but rather move away from them so that we do not cause difficulty for those traveling on the road, and so that we do not expose ourselves to the harm of crawling creatures. Similarly, and even more so, are the roads of cars today, the highways. A person should stay away from them, for perhaps a driver may doze off for a moment, and then the car will crash into these sleepers near the road, and a disaster will occur. So stay away from the highways; do not sleep around them lest you fall into danger. This is part of the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
And: He would prop up his arm and lean on it. For if it was the beginning of the night, he would sleep on his right side to give the soul its share of sleep, to give it its portion of sleep. For this reason, in his residence (peace and blessings be upon him) and in his house, when he slept, he would sleep on his right side. In fact, he commanded that a person should sleep on his right side.
However, if it was before the dawn, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would prop up his arm and sleep on his hand so that he would not fall into deep sleep and miss the Fajr prayer, may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him. In this is an indication that a person should also give his soul its share of rest, and not forget the worship of his Lord. In the beginning of the night, he can sleep and be satisfied before the dawn, then rise. In the last part of the night, no, he should not sleep the sleep of one who is secure, but the sleep of one who is alert: one who does not fall into deep sleep lest he miss the Fajr prayer. In this is evidence that a person should use an alarm for sleep. The alarm: the clock that wakes him so that he does not miss the prayer. If the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) propped up his arm and set it up, it was for the purpose of waking up. So likewise, a person should have an alarm with him that wakes him for prayer. This is among the etiquettes of travel that the best of people (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) indicated. And Allah is the One who grants success.

When you travel through green and lush land, give the camels their due from the ground, and when you travel through a dry and barren land, make them walk quickly lest their strength falters. When you encamp at night, keep away from the roads, for beasts pass there and they are the resort of insects at night.
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
