The reader: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted, in the context of the hadiths in the chapter on what is said when one mounts a beast for travel: "It was narrated from Abdullah ibn Sarjis (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:
Whenever the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) proceeded on a journey, he would seek refuge in Allah from the hardships of the journey, and against deviation after guidance, and against the supplication of the oppressed, and occurrences of unpleasant events in the family and property.
Riyad as-Salihin 973
Narrated by Muslim.
And it was narrated from Ali ibn Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:
'Ali bin Rabi'ah reported: In my presence, a beast was brought to 'Ali bin Abu Talib (May Allah be pleased with him) for riding. When he put his foot in the stirrup, he said: "Bismillah (With the Name of Allah)." When he had settled himself on its back he recited: "Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi sakh-khara lana hadha, wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun. (All praise belongs to Allah Who has made this subservient to us, for we had not the strength to overpower it; and to our Rubb shall we return)." He then recited thrice: "Alhamdu lillah (Praise be to Allah)," and then three times: "Allahu Abkar (Allah is Greatest)." Then he said: "Subhanaka inni zalamtu nafsi faghfir li, innahu la yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa Anta (You are far removed from imperfection I have wronged myself, so forgive me, because none but You can forgive sins)." Then he smiled. It was asked: "Why have you smiled, O Amir Al-Mu'minin (Leader of the Believers)?" He replied: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) doing as I have done. I (i.e., Ali) asked him (the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)) the reason for smiling. He (ﷺ) said, 'Your Rubb, Glorious is He, is pleased when His slave seeks His forgiveness. He (the slave) has firm faith that none except Allah Alone can forgive sins)'."

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
These two hadiths are about the supplications and remembrances that are said when a person mounts his mount for travel. We have previously explained the noble verse in which Allah the Exalted said:
(13) That you may settle yourselves upon their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have settled upon them and say. "Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have [otherwise] subdued it. (14) And indeed we, to our Lord, will [surely] return."
[Az-Zukhruf 43:13-14]
. Likewise, a person seeks refuge with Allah from the hardships of the journey, from the sadness of the appearance, and from a bad turn of events in wealth and family. He also seeks refuge from the supplication of the oppressed, and he asks Allah for forgiveness and mercy. He praises Allah three times and declares the greatness of Allah three times. All of this is what came from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). If you mention it with its exact wording, that is the best and most preferred. Otherwise, say what is easy for you. The most important thing is what Allah the Exalted mentioned in the Qur'an:
"Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have [otherwise] subdued it. (14) And indeed we, to our Lord, will [surely] return."
[Az-Zukhruf 43:13-14]
.
In the hadith of Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), there is an indication of the vastness of Allah's forgiveness and His mercy, and that He, Mighty and Majestic, is pleased with His servant when he seeks His forgiveness and repents to Him. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that he said:
Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than if one of you
Sahih Muslim 2747b, c
, and he mentioned the hadith: It is about a man who was traveling and lost his mount. He searched for it but did not find it, and his food and drink were on it. He despaired of finding it and of life, and he slept under a tree waiting for death. While he was in that state, his mount came and got caught on the tree. He took hold of its reins and said:
0 Lord, Thou art my servant and I am Thine Lord
Sahih Muslim 2747a
So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is pleased with the repentance of His servant.
So you, my Muslim brother, must repent to Allah, return to Him, count your sins, and seek forgiveness. Know that whenever you seek forgiveness from Allah the Exalted with sincerity and pure intention, Allah the Exalted will forgive you:
And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself but then seeks forgiveness of Allah will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
[An-Nisa 4:110]
. We ask Allah to forgive us and you, and to have mercy on us and you. Indeed, He is capable of all things.
