The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted, in the context of the hadiths regarding the command to maintain the prescribed prayers, and the strong prohibition and severe warning against abandoning them:
"From Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
Mu'adh (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent me as a governor to Yemen and (at the time of departure) he instructed me thus: "You will go to people of the Scripture (i.e., the Jews and the Christians). First of all invite them to testify that La ilaha ill Allah (There is no true god except Allah) and that Muhammad (ﷺ) is His slave and Messenger; and if they accept this, then tell them that Allah has enjoined upon them five Salat (prayers) during the day and night; and if they accept it, then tell them that Allah has made the payment of Zakat obligatory upon them. It should be collected from their rich and distributed among their poor; and if they agree to it, don't take (as a share of Zakat) the best of their properties. Beware of the supplications of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] .
Riyad as-Salihin 1077
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim"

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*, in the chapter on maintaining the prayers:
The hadith of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), regarding Mu'adh ibn Jabal:
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) sent him to Yemen
: Yemen is well known, and it is the south of the Arabian Peninsula. He sent him in the tenth year of the Hijrah in Rabi' al-Awwal. When he intended to send him, he said to him:
You will go to people of the Scripture
Riyad as-Salihin 1077
: And the People of the Book are the Jews and the Christians, because Allah revealed the Torah to the Jews and the Gospel to the Christians.
He informed him of this so that he would be prepared for them, because the People of the Book were the most knowledgeable people at that time regarding the laws of Allah. A person needs to know their condition so that he can argue with them in a way that silences them and defeats them in the argument.
to testify that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and Muhammad is His Apostle
Sahih al-Bukhari 2157
: This is the key to Islam, the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. This does not mean that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) is exclusive in the message, for there were messengers before him: Moses and Jesus, and others. But the Messenger of Allah is the Seal of the Prophets, and his law abrogated all previous laws. There is no prophet after him, and no law other than his law.
and if they accept this (declaration of Faith), then tell them that Allah has enjoined upon them five Salat during the day and night
Riyad as-Salihin 1208
: This is the point of the hadith, and they are: the midday prayer, the afternoon prayer, the sunset prayer, the night prayer, the dawn prayer, and the Friday prayer in place of the midday prayer.
If they obey that, then tell them that Allah has enjoined upon them charity (Zakat) from their wealth, to be taken from the rich and given to their poor.
Sunan Ibn Majah 1783Sahih (Darussalam)
: In their wealth, this is one of the narrations of al-Bukhari.
which would be collected from the wealthy amongst them and distributed to their needy ones
Sahih Muslim 19c
: The rich here is the plural of the wealthy: they are those who possess a zakah-eligible threshold. Wealth in every context is defined according to its context; it is defined in the chapter on the obligation of zakah as possessing a zakah-eligible threshold, and it is defined in the chapter on the recipients of zakah as one who finds what suffices him and his family for a year or more.
If they obey you in that and agree, beware of the best of their wealth
: This means beware of taking the best of the wealth; rather, take the middle. They are not wronged, and they do not wrong others. Do not take the bad, for that would wrong the recipients of zakah, and do not take the best, for that would wrong those upon whom zakah is obligatory. Take the middle.
and beware of the supplication of the oppressed
: This means that if you take from the best of their wealth, you have wronged them, and they will supplicate against you.
Beware of the supplication of the oppressed for there is no barrier between him and Allah.
Sahih Muslim 19a
: It reaches Allah the Glorious and Exalted, and He answers it even if it comes from a disbeliever. If the oppressed supplicates to Allah, even if he is a disbeliever, Allah the Exalted takes revenge on the one who wronged him, either immediately or later. This is part of establishing justice, and Allah, Glorified and Exalted, is the most just of judges. The perfection of His judgment is justice among His servants, so He takes for the oppressed from the oppressor:
Beware of the supplication of the oppressed for there is no barrier between him and Allah.
Sahih Muslim 19a
.
The point of this hadith is his saying:
then tell them Allah has enjoined upon them five prayers during the day and the night
Sahih Muslim 19a
, and success is from Allah.
