Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
He said (may Allah have mercy on him): "The Chapter on the Obligation of Fasting Ramadan:
Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
والصيام جنة ، فإذا كان يوم صوم أحدكم فلا يرفث ولا يصخب، فإن سابَّه أحد أو قاتله فليقل : إني صائم .
والذي نفس محمد بيده لَخُلوف فم الصائم أطيب عند الله من ريح المسك. للصائم فرحتان يفرحهما : إذا أفطر فرح ، وإذا لقي ربه فرح بصومه Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, and this is the wording of al-Bukhari's narration.
And in another narration of his:Sahih al-Bukhari 1894.
And in a narration specific to Muslim:
قال الله تعالى : إلا الصوم فإنه لي وأنا أجزي به : يدع شهوته وطعامه من أجلي. للصائم فرحتان : فرحة عند فطره، وفرحة عند لقاء ربه .
ولخُلوف فيه أطيب عند الله من ريح المسك".
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
This hadith is the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, which the author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted in the Chapter on the Obligation of Fasting in *Riyad al-Salihin*, after mentioning the verses, and he mentioned therein benefits:
First: That Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, made fasting for Himself, and the other deeds of the son of Adam, meaning other than fasting, are for the son of Adam. Allah the Exalted said:Sahih al-Bukhari 1904: The meaning is that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, singles out fasting from among all other deeds, because fasting is the greatest of acts of worship in sincerity, for it is a secret between the person and his Lord, because the person does not know if he is fasting or not while he is with people, going and coming, entering and exiting, and they do not know about it; his intention is hidden. Therefore, it is the greatest in sincerity, so Allah singled it out from among all other deeds.
Some scholars said: "And its meaning is that when the Day of Resurrection comes and a person has injustices committed against the servants, he is taken from his good deeds for the servants, except fasting, for nothing is taken from it, because it is for Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and not for the person": This is a good meaning, that the reward of fasting remains for its owner and nothing is taken from it for the injustices committed against creation.
And among them: That the deed of the son of Adam is multiplied, the good deed being ten times its like, except fasting, for it is given its reward without limit, meaning it is multiplied many, many times. The people of knowledge said: "This is because fasting encompasses the three types of patience: patience in obedience to Allah, patience against disobedience to Allah, and patience with the decrees of Allah": As for patience in obedience to Allah, it is because the person compels himself to fast despite sometimes disliking it; he dislikes it because of its hardship, not because Allah made it obligatory. If a person disliked fasting because Allah made it obligatory, his knowledge would be nullified, but he dislikes it because of its hardship, and yet he compels himself to it, so he is patient regarding food, drink, and intercourse for the sake of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. For this reason, Allah the Exalted said in the Qudsi hadith:Sahih al-Bukhari 1894.
The second type of patience is: patience against disobedience to Allah, and this is achieved by the fasting person, for he restrains himself from disobeying Allah, Mighty and Majestic: he avoids idle talk, obscene language, ignorance, falsehood, and other prohibitions of Allah.
The third is: patience with the decrees of Allah, and that is because the person is afflicted during fasting, especially in the long, hot days of summer, with laziness, boredom, and thirst that cause him pain and discomfort, but he is patient because it is in the pleasure of Allah.
So when it encompassed the three types of patience, its reward is without limit. Allah the Exalted said:Sahih Ibn Hibban 23:182.
And among the benefits included in this hadith: that the fasting person has two moments of joy: the first moment of joy is when he breaks his fast; when he breaks his fast, he rejoices in breaking it. He rejoices in breaking it from two aspects: the first aspect is that he has performed an obligation from the obligations of Allah, and Allah has bestowed this upon him. How many a person in the graves wishes he could fast one day but it does not happen to him, and Allah has bestowed fasting upon this person, so he fasted, and this is a blessing. How many a person started fasting but did not complete it, so when he breaks his fast, he rejoices because he has performed an obligation from the obligations of Allah.
And he also rejoices in another joy: which is that Allah has made lawful for him what agrees with his nature from foods, drinks, and intercourse after he was prohibited from them. So these are two joys in breaking the fast:
The first is that Allah has bestowed upon him the completion of this obligation, and the second is that Allah has bestowed upon him what He made lawful from his beloved things, namely food, drink, and intercourse.
And among the benefits of this hadith: the indication of the benefits of fasting, and the wisdom behind the obligation of fasting, where he said:Sunan an-Nasa'i 2217 meaning he does not say a word that makes him sinful, and he does not make a commotion by speaking with loud, noisy speech, but rather he is calm, tranquil, and deliberate. If someone insults him or abuses him, he does not raise his voice against him, but let him say: I am fasting. He says this so that the one who insulted him does not become arrogant over him, as if he is saying: I am not incapable of responding to you with what you insulted me with, but I am fasting, and my fasting prevents me from responding to you.
And on this basis, he says it aloud. Also, when he says: I am fasting, he restrains himself from responding to the one who insulted him, as if he is saying to himself: I am fasting, so do not respond to this one who insulted me. This is also a noble and great meaning. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to say when he saw something from the world that pleased him and he feared his soul would become attached to it:Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 9:3196: The soul is inclined to love what it is drawn to and its desires. So when he sees something from the world that pleases him, let him say: At your service: meaning in response to you, O Lord. Indeed, life is the life of the Hereafter: as for the life of this world, it is transient and perishing. This is among the benefits of fasting, which the author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted from what Abu Hurayrah narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family and all his Companions).
And in this hadith there are two types of hadith: Qudsi words from the speech of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated from his Lord.
And Prophetic words from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and Allah knows best.

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted in the chain of hadiths in the Chapter on the Obligation of Fasting Ramadan:
"Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
قال أبو بكر رضي الله عنه : بأبي أنت وأمي يا رسول الله ! ما على مَن دُعي من تلك الأبواب من ضرورة، فهل يدعى أحد من تلك الأبواب كلها ؟ قال : نعم ، وأرجو أن تكون منهم Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim".

He said (may Allah have mercy on him): "The Chapter on the Obligation of Fasting Ramadan:
Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah the Mighty and Majestic said: Every deed of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting, for it is for Me and I shall reward it. Fasting is a shield; so when one of you is fasting, let him not use obscene language or act foolishly. If someone insults him or fights him, let him say: I am fasting. By Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, the bad breath of the mouth of the fasting person is more pleasing to Allah than the scent of musk. The fasting person has two moments of joy: he rejoices when he breaks his fast, and he rejoices when he meets his Lord because of his fasting.
And in another narration of his:
He has left his food, drink and desires for My sake. The fast is for Me. So I will reward (the fasting person) for it and the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times.
And in a narration specific to Muslim:
Every deed of the son of Adam is multiplied: a good deed is multiplied tenfold up to seven hundred times. Allah the Exalted said: “Except for fasting, for it is for Me and I shall reward it for it: he leaves his desire and his food for My sake.” The fasting person has two moments of joy: joy when he breaks his fast, and joy when he meets his Lord. And the bad breath of the fasting person is more pleasant to Allah than the scent of musk.

Will anyone be called from all of those gates?” He said: “Yes, and I hope that you will be among them.”
