What is the ruling on one who strains himself to honor his guest?

The Shaykh : These people are also among the foolish. For example, some people have a guest come to them while they are in a weak financial state and may even be in debt, yet they go and slaughter an animal for him. This is a mistake. And perhaps some of the foolish will pronounce divorce on their wife just to slaughter an animal. If the guest says, "Do not strain yourself, do not slaughter," he says, "I have sworn an oath that I will slaughter." Glory be to Allah! But the problem is that people need to be educated. And you, Shaykh Hamad, are one of those who travel through the villages, so may Allah reward you with good, emphasize this issue.
