Q3: What is the ruling on slaughtering an animal for a guest , given that Allah says:[Al-Ma'idah 5:3] ?
A3: It is permissible to slaughter an animal for a guest and to mention the name of Allah over it at the time of slaughter. This is not included in the generality of the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
such as slaughtering for the dead and the like, as a means of drawing near to them. As for slaughtering for a guest, the intended purpose is to honor him, not to worship him; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the honoring of the guest. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
