The Shaykh : Likewise, the hadith of Thawban, but he mentioned it as restricted, stating that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to say, "I seek forgiveness from Allah," when he finished his prayer, meaning: he sought forgiveness three times. Then he said:
O Allah, You are As-Salam, and from you is As-Salam. You are blessed, O One of Magnificence and Generosity. أستغفر الله أستغفر الله أستغفر الله اللهم أنت السلام ومنك السلام تباركت يا ذا الجلال والإكرام
Sunan Abi Dawud 1512Sahih (Al-Albani)
A person only seeks forgiveness when he has finished his prayer because of any defects or shortcomings that may have occurred in it. And he says: "O Allah, You are Peace" meaning: O Allah, I seek nearness to You through this noble name among Your names, that You make my prayer complete so that it becomes an expiation for sins and an elevation in degrees. And success is from Allah.
