A man speaks a good word without knowing its worth, Allah records for him His Good Pleasure till the day he will meet Him; and a man utters an evil word without realizing its importance, Allah records for him His displeasure till the day he will meet Him.

the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "For whomever Allah protects against the evil of what is between his jaws and the evil of what is between his legs, he shall enter Paradise."

I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! What is the means to salvation?' He said: 'That you control your tongue, suffice yourself your house, and cry over your sins.'
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2406Da'if (Darussalam)
Al-Tirmidhi narrated it and said: It is a good hadith. And from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said:
When the son of Adam gets up in the morning, all the limbs humble themselves before the tongue and say: 'Fear Allah for our sake because we are with you: (i.e., we will be rewarded or punished as a result of what you do) if you are straight, we will be straight; and if you are crooked, we will become crooked
Riyad as-Salihin 1521
Al-Tirmidhi narrated it. And from Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, tell me of a deed that will bring me into Paradise and keep me far from the Fire.” He said, “You have asked about a great matter, yet it is easy for one whom Allah makes it easy. Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, establish the prayer, give the zakah, fast Ramadan, and perform Hajj to the House if you are able to find a way to it.” Then he said, “Shall I tell you about the gates of good? Fasting is a shield, and charity extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire, and the prayer of a man in the middle of the night.” Then he recited: “Their sides forsake their beds” until he reached: “What their hands have earned.” Then he said, “Shall I tell you about the head of the matter, its pillar, and its peak?” I said, “Yes, O Messenger of Allah.” He said, “The head of the matter is Islam, its pillar is the prayer, and its peak is jihad.” Then he said, “Shall I tell you about the key to all of this?” I said, “Yes, O Messenger of Allah.” So he took his tongue and said, “Hold this in check.” I said: O Messenger of Allah, are we indeed held accountable for what we speak? He said: May your mother mourn you! Do people not fall headlong into the Fire except by the harvest of their tongues?
Al-Tirmidhi narrated it and said: It is a good, authentic hadith."

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
These hadiths that the author (may Allah have mercy on him) cited all contain a warning against the tongue and its evils and calamities, and that a person may speak a word from the anger of Allah without giving it any thought and without thinking it would reach the extent it did, and Allah writes for him His anger because of it until the Day he meets Him. All of them contain a warning against the tongue and its calamities. For this reason, it was said:
"Guard your tongue lest you speak and be tested, *** For the test is assigned to speech"
Many people invoke evil upon themselves without realizing it. They invoke evil upon their children, upon their wealth, upon their friends, and upon their relatives without realizing it. Perhaps that invocation finds an open door and strikes them. In the hadith of Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), Mu'adh ibn Jabal,
It was narrated from ʼUmar bin al Khattab رضي الله عنه that the Prophet ﷺ said: “O ‘Umar, you are a strong man. Do not crowd others to touch the Black Stone, lest you harm the weak. If you find a gap, then touch it, otherwise turn to face it and say Lailaha illallah, and Allahu akbar.` أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال له: ألا أخبرك بملاك ذلك كله؟
Musnad Ahmad 190[A Hasan hadeeth] (Darussalam)
meaning what controls all of this,
I said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.'
Sunan Ibn Majah 3825
the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took his tongue and said:
Hold this in check.
He said: "O Messenger of Allah, are we indeed held accountable for what we speak?" Meaning: Are we held accountable for what we speak? He said:
May your mother not found you, O Mu’adh
Sunan Ibn Majah 3973Hasan (Darussalam)
This is a phrase intended to emphasize the gravity of the matter.
People will be thrown on their faces into the Hell on account of their tongues.
Riyad as-Salihin 1522
So beware, my brother, of these harvests. Guard your tongue. And guarding the tongue means that a person must guard his tongue from lying, falsehood, deception, backbiting, talebearing, and every word that distances him from Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and brings upon him punishment. It is obligatory for him to purify himself from it. We ask Allah to preserve for us and for you our religion, which is the safeguard of our affair. Indeed, He is capable of all things.
