The author said in his book *Riyad al-Saliheen* “The Chapter on the Prohibition of Treachery” And we have previously discussed its meaning and the first verse with which the author began the chapter, which is the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ma'idah 5:1]
As for the second verse, Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Isra 17:34] Allah commands that the covenant be fulfilled, meaning if you make a covenant with someone and say, “By the covenant of Allah, I will not do such-and-such,” or “I will not reveal what you have told me,” or the like, then it is obligatory for you to fulfill the covenant, because you will be asked about the covenant on the Day of Resurrection. For this reason, He said: [Al-Isra 17:34] Then he mentioned hadiths about which we have previously spoken, meaning explained them. The greatest of them is that A banner is what is used in war, like a flag. A banner is raised for every treacherous person at his back, and may Allah protect us, meaning at his buttocks. This banner is raised according to the magnitude of his treachery; if it is great, it becomes tall, and if it is small, it becomes small. And it is said, “This is the treachery of so-and-so, son of so-and-so,” and may Allah protect us.
And in this hadith is evidence that treachery is among the major sins, because it contains this severe threat.
And in it is also the fact that people are called by their fathers on the Day of Resurrection, not by their mothers. And the claim that a person is called by his mother’s name on the Day of Resurrection, and it is said, “O so-and-so, son of so-and-so,” is not correct. Rather, a person is called by his father’s name, just as he is called by it in this world.
And in the last hadith is also a warning about a matter that many people do today, which is that they rush to take the work of laborers but do not pay them their wages. This is what is done: one hires a worker and does not pay him his wage, and Allah the Mighty and Majestic becomes his adversary on the Day of Resurrection, as Allah the Exalted said in the Qudsi hadith:Sahih al-Bukhari 2227 meaning he made a covenant by Me and then betrayed.
And the second is:Sahih al-Bukhari 2227 even if it was his son or his younger brother, then he sold him and consumed his price, so Allah becomes his adversary on the Day of Resurrection.
The third is this man who hired a worker, took full benefit from him, and the worker completed the work, but he did not pay him his wage. Among this is what some people do today with workers they bring from abroad. You find he hires him for a specific wage, for example, six hundred riyals per month. Then when he comes here, he delays paying him, harms him, and does not give him his right. He may even say to him, “Do you want to stay here for four hundred riyals, or should I deport you?” This, and may Allah protect us, makes Allah his adversary on the Day of Resurrection, and He takes from his good deeds to give to this worker. Because his saying, “Either you work for four hundred or I deport you,” means he hired him for six hundred but did not pay him his wage, so he falls under this severe threat. And these are the people who bring workers and do not pay them their wages, or bring them when they have no work for them, but leave them in the markets and say, “Go, and if you get anything, half is for me,” or for example, he says, “Go, and you owe me three hundred or four hundred riyals per month.” All of this is forbidden, and may Allah protect us. It is not lawful for them, and what they consume is illicit. And every body that grows from illicit gain, the Fire is more deserving of it. And these are the people who consume the wealth of these poor workers. These people’s supplications are not accepted, and may Allah protect us. They call upon Allah, but He does not respond to them, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1015 And what these people consume from the wages of these workers, or by which they oppress them, they consume it as illicit gain. We ask Allah for safety. So a person should fear Allah. I know that you will convey this to these oppressors, and may Allah protect us.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.

يا أيها الذين آمنوا أوفوا بالعقودAnd fulfill [every] commitment. Indeed, the commitment is ever [that about which one will be] questioned.
وأوفوا بالعهد إن العهد كان مسؤولاFrom ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said
Whoever has the following four (characteristics) will be a pure hypocrite and whoever has one of the following four characteristics will have one characteristic of hypocrisy unless and until he gives it up. 1. Whenever he is entrusted, he betrays. 2. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie. 3. Whenever he makes a covenant, he proves treacherous. 4. Whenever he quarrels, he behaves in a very imprudent, evil and insulting manner.

There will be a flag for every perfidious person on the Day of Judgment, and it would be said: Here is the perfidy of so and so.
لكل غادر لواء يوم القيامة يقال هذه غدرة فلانAnd from Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said
On the Day of Judgment there will be a flag for every person guilty of the breach of faith. It will be raised in proportion to the extent of his guilt; and there is no guilt of treachery more serious than the one committed by the ruler of men.
لكل غادر لواء عند استه يوم القيامة يرفع له بقدر غدره ألا ولا غادر أعظم غدرا من أمير عامةAnd from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said
There are three whose adversary I shall be on the day of resurrection: a man who gave a promise in my name then acted faithlessly; a man who sold a free man and enjoyed the price he received for him; and a man who hired a servant and, after receiving full service from him, did not give him his wages.
