The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
He said (may Allah have mercy on him): "Chapter on the dislike of rejecting basil without a valid excuse:
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who is presented with a flower should not reject it, for it is light to carry and pleasant in odour.
Sahih Muslim 2253
Muslim narrated it.
And Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
that the Prophet (ﷺ) never used to refuse (a gift of) scent.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5929
Al-Bukhari narrated it"
.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author said (may Allah have mercy on him): "Chapter on the dislike of rejecting basil":
Basil is a type of fragrance, and it is as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) described it:
light to carry and pleasant in odour
Sahih Muslim 2253
, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) guided to not rejecting it, and the author (may Allah have mercy on him) clarified in the hadith of al-Bukhari that he cited:
that the Prophet (ﷺ) never used to refuse (a gift of) scent.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5929
.
Fragrance, without doubt, opens the chest, expands the heart, broadens the mind, and pleases the companion. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) loved fragrance until he said:
I have been made to love from your worldly life fragrance and women, and I have made the delight of my eyes in prayer
Musannaf Abd al-Razzaq 9:629
: A person should use fragrance constantly, because it is a sign of the goodness of the servant, for the good things are for the good people, and the good people are for the good things. And Allah the Exalted is Good and accepts nothing but what is good. If fragrance is gifted to you, do not reject it, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used not to reject fragrance, especially if it is as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) described basil:
it is light to carry and pleasant in odour
Sahih Muslim 2253
, because it does not harm you in any way. But if you fear that the one who gifted you the fragrance will speak about it in gatherings or boast to you in the future, saying, "I gifted you such-and-such, and this is my reward," and wants you to use him for what he gifted you, then do not accept his gift, because this invalidates his reward and recompense through boasting and harm. However, if it does not harm you in any way, it is better not to reject it. And success is from Allah.
