Holding Back Wind in Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 16586 )
Q: What is the ruling on one who wants to pass wind in prayer and holds it back until after the prayer?
A: It is established from the hadith of 'Abdullah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
It was complained to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about a man who feels as if he finds something in prayer, so he said: Do not turn away until he hears a sound or finds wind.شكي إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم الرجل يخيل إليه أنه يجد الشيء في الصلاة فقال: لا ينصرف حتى يسمع صوتًا أو يجد ريحًا
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:2364
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim; therefore, if nothing of that occurs, his prayer is valid, but he should not enter prayer while holding back any of that, due to the hadith of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
No prayer can be (rightly said) when the food is there (before the worshipper), or when he is prompted by the call of nature.لا صلاة بحضرة الطعام ولا وهو يدافعه الأخبثان
Sahih Muslim 560a
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. The two most impure things refer to urine and feces, and wind is like them in meaning if one is holding it back. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
