The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
He said -may Allah have mercy on him-: "Chapter on the Prohibition of Cursing the Wind, and Explaining What Is Said When It Blows:
From Abu ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not curse the wind. When you see what you dislike, then say: 'Allahumma inna nas-aluka min khairi hadhihir-rih, wa khairi ma fiha wa khairi ma umirat bihi wa na'udhu bika min sharri hadhihir-rih wa sharri ma fiha wa sharri ma umirat bihi' ('O Allah! Indeed we ask you of the good of this wind, and the good of what is in it, and the good of what it has been commanded. And we seek refuge in You from the evil of this wind, and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been commanded.)"
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2252Hasan (Darussalam)
Al-Tirmidhi narrated it and said: It is a good, authentic hadith.
And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
The wind is the Blessing of Allah. Sometimes it brings His Mercy and sometimes it brings His Chastisement. When you experience it, do not revile it but beg of Allah its good; and seek Allah's Refuge against its evil.
Riyad as-Salihin 1728
Abu Dawud narrated it with a good chain.
And from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:
The Prophet (ﷺ) would say: "Allahumma inni as'aluka khairaha, wa khaira ma fiha, wa khaira ma ursilat bihi. Wa a'udhu bika min sharriha, wa sharri ma fiha, wa sharri ma ursilat bihi. (O Allah, I beg of You its good and the good of that which it contains and the good of the purpose for which it has been sent; and I seek Your Refuge from its evil and the evil of that which it contains and the evil of the purpose for which it has been sent)."
Riyad as-Salihin 1729
Muslim narrated it"

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author said -may Allah have mercy on him- in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*: "Chapter on the Prohibition of Cursing the Wind", and the prohibition of cursing the fever was mentioned in the previous lesson.
The winds are among the signs of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), among the signs of Allah the Exalted in their direction, their sending, and their nature, for no one can direct these winds except their Creator (Mighty and Majestic), as Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said:
Indeed, in the alternation of the night and the day and [in] what Allah has created in the heavens and the earth are signs for a people who fear Allah
[Yunus 10:6]
, and Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said:
And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy
[Al-A'raf 7:57]
, and He the Exalted said:
And of His signs is that He sends the winds as bringers of good tidings and to let you taste His mercy
[Ar-Rum 30:46]
, and there are many verses regarding this.
This wind that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) created and directs is divided into two categories:
One category: an ordinary wind that does not frighten. For this, no specific dhikr is prescribed.
And another wind: a violent wind. This one frightens, because Allah the Exalted punished the people of 'Ad with the barren wind, and refuge is sought in Allah. So when the wind blows violently, it is not permissible for you to curse it, because the wind is only sent by Allah (Mighty and Majestic). So cursing it is cursing Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). But say as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
O Allah, indeed, I ask You for its good, the good of what is in it, and the good of what it has been sent with. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent with
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3449Sahih (Darussalam)
: And with this supplication, you will obtain its good, and its evil will be removed from you.
I ask You for the good of this wind
: Because this wind may be a severe violent wind that uproots doors, uproots trees, and demolishes houses.
and the good of what is in it وخير ما فيها
: What is in it: meaning what it carries, which may be beneficial or harmful.
and the good of what it has been sent with
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3449Sahih (Darussalam)

And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent with
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3449Sahih (Darussalam)

And know that it is not permissible for a person to rely on the wind for the occurrence of rain, showers, clear weather, and the like, because this is of the same kind as seeking rain through the stars (anwa'), which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited. Many people attach their hope to the south wind, saying: When the south wind blows, the rain will come. You will find their hearts attached to it. This is not permissible, because the south wind may blow many times and no rain or clouds come. And it may be the opposite: the rain and clouds may come from the north wind. The whole matter is in the hand of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). So you must attach your heart to your Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He), and not curse what He created of the winds. Ask Allah for its good, the good of what is in it, and the good of what it was sent with, and seek refuge in Allah from its evil, the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it was sent with. And Allah grants success.
