The questioner : It is narrated in Musnad al-Imam Ahmad
That a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to pledge allegiance to him on the condition that he would not pray except two prayers, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted his pledge أن رجلا أتى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ليبايعه على ألا يصلي إلا صلاتين فبايعه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم
The researcher of the book says its chain of narration is good. We would like guidance regarding this hadith.

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you. The scholars differed regarding its authenticity and weakness. As for those who said it is weak, they have relieved us of the burden.
As for those who said it is good or hasan, its explanation is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was told about it, but in another hadith he said:
If they embrace Islam, they will pray إنهم إذا أسلموا صلوا
He accepted this from him because he knew that if he truly embraced Islam, he would pray.

The questioner : And can it be said to someone in our time who wants to enter Islam...

The Shaykh : I would hold back on this, because when the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If he embraces Islam, he will pray إذا أسلم فسيصلي
This may have been from the knowledge of the unseen that Allah revealed to His Messenger. As for us, we do not have that. Therefore, the Prophet ordered Mu'adh to call them to five prayers. If they respond to that, then inform them that Allah has made obligatory upon them a charity. This indicates that we must say five prayers.
