Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I am a Muslim, praise be to Allah, and I do everything that pleases Allah, and I am committed to the Shari'ah hijab. However, my mother, may Allah forgive her, does not want me to be committed to the hijab, and she orders me to watch cinema and videos, and so on. She says to me: If you do not enjoy yourself and relax, you will become an old woman and your hair will turn white.
A: It is obligatory for you to be kind to your mother, to treat her well, and to address her in the best manner; because the right of the mother is great. However, you are not to obey her in other than what is right, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani) and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Mishkat al-Masabih 3696 Likewise, the father, the husband, and others are not to be obeyed in the sins of Allah, due to the aforementioned hadith. However, the wife, the child, and the like should use gentleness and a good manner in resolving problems, by explaining the Shari'ah evidence, the obligation to obey Allah and His Messenger, and the caution against disobeying Allah and His Messenger, while standing firm on the truth and not obeying anyone who orders what contradicts it, whether a husband, a father, a mother, or others.
There is no harm in watching what contains no evil on television and video, and listening to scientific seminars and beneficial lessons, and being cautious of watching what is shown on them that is evil. Likewise, it is not permissible to watch cinema because of the types of falsehood it contains.
