Question:
They also ask this question: A father has a shop and sells cigarettes, and his son refuses to sell them because he believes they are forbidden. Consequently, the father curses his son and prevents him from seeking knowledge. Does the father’s curse take effect in this case? And is it permissible to disobey the father in order to seek knowledge, given that the father is provided for by other sons who work with him? Please issue a ruling, may Allah reward you, and may Allah bless you.
Answer:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith:Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani) And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Mishkat al-Masabih 3696 So if a father orders his son to do something blameworthy, the son is not obligated to obey and comply in that matter.
He must address the matter with wisdom and kind words with his father, and explain to him that this thing is not permissible because of the great harm and much evil it contains.
He should ask him to forgive him for not helping him with this thing, and he should not respond to his request to help him sell tobacco or types of intoxicants, or anything else that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has forbidden , but he should do so with kind words and a good manner; because the father has a great right, and Allah says: [Luqman: 14], and He (Exalted and Majestic is He) says: [Luqman: 15].
So [the Prophet] was commanded to treat them with kindness in this world, even though they ordered shirk (associating partners with Allah). This indicates that their right is great, and that it is obligatory for the son to care for this right with all that he is able to, without obeying his parents in disobedience.

Answer:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith:
Obedience is in matters which are good and universally recognized.
إنما الطاعة في المعروفA creature is not to be obeyed when it involves disobedience to the "Creator.”
لا طاعة لمخلوق في معصية الخالقHe must address the matter with wisdom and kind words with his father, and explain to him that this thing is not permissible because of the great harm and much evil it contains.
He should ask him to forgive him for not helping him with this thing, and he should not respond to his request to help him sell tobacco or types of intoxicants, or anything else that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has forbidden , but he should do so with kind words and a good manner; because the father has a great right, and Allah says:
Be grateful to Me and to your parents
أَنِ اشْكُرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيْكَBut if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness
So [the Prophet] was commanded to treat them with kindness in this world, even though they ordered shirk (associating partners with Allah).
