The Ruling on a Woman Obedient to Her Husband in Disobedience

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
She says: My husband is a conservative man—praise be to Allah—but he uses the shisha, and he orders me to prepare it for him. If I disobey him, there will be conflict, disagreement, and problems between us, especially since I have small children who have no guardian but Allah, and then their father. Is there sin upon me in preparing it for him, given the circumstances I have described? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
It is not permissible for your husband to smoke the shisha, nor any other type of smoking, nor any other type of intoxicants or things that cause intoxication. It is obligatory for him to repent to Allah from that, and to beware of the consequences of this sin.
It is not permissible for you to help him prepare it for him, even if he becomes angry. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Obedience is in matters which are good and universally recognized.إنما الطاعة في المعروف
Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani)
It is not from what is right that you prepare the shisha for him, or anything else that is forbidden. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A creature is not to be obeyed when it involves disobedience to the "Creator.”لا طاعة لمخلوق في معصية الخالق
Mishkat al-Masabih 3696
.
Therefore, it is obligatory for him to repent to Allah from that, and to stop engaging in this reprehensible matter. As for you, you must always advise him with kind words and a good manner, so that perhaps Allah will guide him and he will repent from this bad deed.
As for obeying him in such a matter, it is not permissible. We ask Allah for guidance for us, for you, and for him. Yes.

The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
