How were the hadiths revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
May Allah preserve our father, Shaykh 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Baz, from all evil, amen. I am sending this question to your eminence, hoping you will graciously answer it.
And peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.
Q: Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, revealed the Qur'an to the Messenger through revelation. So how was the hadith revealed?
A. S. H. from London
And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings, and after that:
A: Allah the Exalted sent down the Noble Qur'an to His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) through the noblest of the angels, Jibril (peace be upon him), as Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said in Surat al-Shu'ara:[Ash-Shu'ara 26:192] The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down onto your heart that you may be among the warners, in a clear Arabic tongue. [al-Shu'ara: 192-195] And He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said in Surat al-Dukhan: By the clear Book, We have sent it down in a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn. Therein is decreed every wise matter. [al-Dukhan: 1-4] And He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: [Al-Qadr 97:1] And what can make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. [al-Qadr: 1-3] This night is the noblest of nights, and it is in the last ten days of Ramadan, as Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said in Surat al-Baqarah: [Al-Baqarah 2:185] the verse [al-Baqarah: 185].
As for the hadith, Allah reveals it to His Prophet through revelation via Jibril (peace be upon him). Sometimes the angel appears to him in the form of a man, and he hears what he says, as in the authentic hadith from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). And success is from Allah.
And peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings...
