Ruling on eating the slaughter of one who abandons prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A question from: M. H. from Al-Alamayn in Egypt, asking: Is it permissible to eat the slaughter of one who abandons prayer?
A: In the name of Allah, and praise is due to Allah.
The answer: It is not permissible to eat the slaughter of one who abandons prayer, according to the most correct of the scholars' opinions, if he acknowledges its obligation but is lax in abandoning it. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Between man and polytheism and unbelief is the abandonment of salat.بين الرجل وبين الشرك والكفر ترك الصلاة
Sahih Muslim 82b
, narrated by Muslim in his Sahih, from the hadith of Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with them both). And based on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.العهد الذي بيننا وبينهم الصلاة؛ فمن تركها فقد كفر
Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam)
, narrated by Imam Ahmad and the compilers of the four Sunan collections with a sound chain, from Buraydah ibn al-Husayb . And based on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The head of the matter is Islam, and its pillar is the Salatرأس الأمر الإسلام، وعموده الصلاة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2616Hasan (Darussalam)
, narrated by Imam Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi with a sound chain, and other hadiths on this matter.
As for one who denies the obligation of prayer, he is considered a disbeliever by the consensus of the Muslims, even if he performs it, because by doing so he is considered to be denying Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and the consensus of the Muslims.
We ask Allah for safety from that, and we ask Him (Glorified and Exalted is He) to guide all Muslims, male and female, to establish it and preserve it, and to be cautious of abandoning it or being lazy about it.
And Allah has criticized the hypocrites for their laziness in it and their sluggishness in performing it with the Muslims, as He said (Glorified and Exalted is He) in Surat al-Nisa:
Indeed, the hypocrites [think to] deceive Allah, but He is deceiving them. And when they stand for prayer, they stand lazily, showing [themselves to] the people and not remembering Allah except a little,إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ يُخَادِعُونَ اللَّهَ وَهُوَ خَادِعُهُمْ وَإِذَا قَامُوا إِلَى الصَّلاةِ قَامُوا كُسَالَى يُرَاءُونَ النَّاسَ وَلا يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ إِلا قَلِيلًا
[al-Nisa: 142]. And He said (Glorified and Exalted is He) in Surat al-Tawbah, describing the hypocrites:
And what prevents their expenditures from being accepted from them but that they have disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger and that they come not to prayer except while they are lazy and that they do not spend except while they are unwilling.
[At-Tawbah 9:54]
So do not their wealth or their children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them with them in this worldly life and that their souls should depart while they are disbelievers [al-Tawbah: 54-55].
And the verses describing the hypocrites, criticizing them, and warning against their characteristics are numerous.
We ask Allah for safety for us and for all Muslims from resembling them.
And success is from Allah.
