The Menstruating Woman Entering What Is Attached to the Mosque
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The brother: A. S. - From America, he sent us a question saying: In America, there is a mosque consisting of three floors: the top floor is a prayer hall for women, the floor below it is the main prayer hall, and the floor below that is a basement containing washrooms, a place for Islamic magazines and newspapers, women's study classes, and a place for women to pray as well. Is it permissible for menstruating women to enter this lower floor? Also, there is a pillar in this mosque that obstructs the worshippers in their rows, dividing the row into two halves. Does it break the row or not?
A: If the building mentioned has been prepared as a mosque and the people of the upper and lower floors can hear the imam's voice, then the prayer of everyone is valid, and it is not permissible for a menstruating woman to sit in the place prepared for prayer on the lower floor; because it is attached to the mosque. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 232Da'if (Al-Albani).
As for her passing through the mosque to fetch some necessities, while taking care that no blood falls, there is no harm in that; because of His saying, the Exalted: [Al-Nisa: 43] and because it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he ordered Aisha to bring him the prayer mat from the mosque, so she said: I am menstruating, so he said (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Abi Dawud 261Sahih (Al-Albani).
As for if the lower floor was not intended by the endower to be part of the mosque, but rather intended as a storage room and a place for the necessities mentioned in the question, then it does not have the ruling of the mosque, and it is permissible for a menstruating woman and one in a state of major ritual impurity to sit in it, and there is no harm in praying in it in the pure place that is not attached to the washrooms, like other pure places where there is no legal impediment preventing prayer in them. But whoever prays in it does not follow the imam above him if he does not see him and does not see some of the worshippers; because it is not attached to the mosque in the stronger of the two opinions of the scholars.
As for the pillar that breaks the row, it does not harm the prayer, but if it is possible for the row to be in front of it or behind it so that it does not break the row, that is better and more complete. And success is from Allah.

I do not make the mosque lawful for a menstruating woman and for a person who is sexually defiled.
