The Ruling on Responding to the Adhan Broadcast from a Radio

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A question from: S. A. - Al-Kharj, asking: Is it permissible to respond to the adhan broadcast from a device (the radio)?

A: If it is during the time of prayer, then responding is prescribed; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
When you hear the mu’adhdhin repeat what he says, then invoke a blessing on me, for everyone who invokes one blessing on me will receive ten blessings from God. Then ask God to give me the wasila , which is a rank in paradise fitting for only one of God’s servants, and I hope that I may be the one. If anyone asks that I be given the wasila , he will be assured of my intercession.
Mishkat al-Masabih 657
which Muslim recorded in his Sahih. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever after listening to the Adhan says, 'Allahumma Rabba hadhihi-dda` watit-tammah, was-salatil qa'imah, ati Muhammadan al-wasilata wal-fadilah, wa b`ath-hu maqaman mahmudan-il-ladhi wa`adtahu' [O Allah! Lord of this perfect call (perfect by not ascribing partners to You) and of the regular prayer which is going to be established, give Muhammad the right of intercession and illustriousness, and resurrect him to the best and the highest place in Paradise that You promised him (of)], then my intercession for him will be allowed on the Day of Resurrectionمن قال حين يسمع النداء: اللهم رب هذه الدعوة التامة والصلاة القائمة، آت محمدا الوسيلة والفضيلة، وابعثه مقاما محمودا الذي وعدته؛ حلت له شفاعتي يوم القيامة
Sahih al-Bukhari 614
which al-Bukhari recorded in his Sahih. Al-Bayhaqi (may Allah have mercy on him) added with a good chain after his saying:
which You have promised himالذي وعدته
You do not break Your promiseإنك لا تخلف الميعاد
Muwatta Malik 20:132
