The Ruling on Slaughter When Building
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a letter from Abdulaziz Fadl Allah Muhammad from Sudan as well. He says: We have a custom where, when we want to lay the foundation for a new building, or place the lintel for this building, or want to set up a new shop, or open a store or something else, we slaughter an animal on that day and call it a karamah (a miracle granted to a righteous person) for the thing for which it was slaughtered. What is the opinion of the Shari'ah in this? May Allah reward you.
Answer: This is not permissible. This is of the same kind as the practice of many people who used to do this for the jinn and say: “We seek to ward off their evil.” If they wanted to establish a farm or a house, they would slaughter a female goat or a male goat at the foundations and say: “This is for the jinn; we seek to ward off the evil of this place, the evil of the inhabitants of this place.” This is of the same kind as the practice of those people, so it is not permissible to imitate the people of disbelief, and this may lead them to do what those people did and intend what they intended.
Therefore, it is obligatory to refrain from that and to be cautious of it, so one should not slaughter anything at the time of laying the foundation. Yes.
