Considering the condition of the weak, such as the elderly, in the Tarawih prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Should the imam consider the condition of the weak, such as the elderly and others like them, in the Tarawih prayer?

A: This is a required matter in all prayers, in Tarawih and in the obligatory prayers; because of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whichever of you leads the people, let him shorten the prayer; for among them are the weak, the young, and the one in need.أيّكم أمَّ الناس فليُخفف؛ فإنَّ فيهم الضعيف والصغير وذا الحاجة
. So the imam considers the ma'mum (those praying behind him) and is gentle with them in the standing prayer of Ramadan and in the last ten nights. People are not all the same; people differ. He should consider their conditions and encourage them to come and to attend. If he prolongs the prayer for them, it becomes difficult for them and drives them away from attending. He should consider what encourages them to attend and motivates them to pray, even by shortening it and not prolonging it. A prayer in which people are humble and at peace, even if it is short, is better than a prayer in which there is no humility and in which boredom and laziness occur.
