Question:
A questioner says: Your Eminence, Shaykh Abdul Aziz, what are the principles and foundations of calling to Allah? And what are its methods?
Answer:
The principles are known: First: the believer strives in himself, learns, gains insight, and understands the religion.
And if Allah grants him knowledge and he understands his religion, then the principle in that is: to call to Allah; by teaching people, guiding the ignorant and teaching them, directing them to good, enjoining good, and forbidding evil, as the Exalted said: [Yusuf:108].
The first principle: that you receive knowledge, and that you learn and gain insight, and you care for the Qur'an, its memorization, and reflection on its meanings, and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), until you memorize from it what is easy, and you engage with the scholars, ask the scholars, and review with the scholars; so that you are upon clear proof.
So when you know what Allah has prescribed for you, what He has made obligatory upon you, and what He has forbidden upon you; you call to Allah, so that you are among those about whom Allah said: [Al-Asr:3] and among those about whom He said: [Al-Imran:104], and among those about whom He said: [Al-Ma'idah:2].
You benefit yourself, and you benefit people with wisdom and good speech, the Exalted said: [An-Nahl:125].
So you call to Allah with good speech, and you guide to Him, and you teach people good, and you forbid them from evil, this is what you should do.
