Clarification of principles in the pursuit of knowledge.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is this, O Shaykh, what you advise the elders to do?

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed. We never advise the youth to do this; rather, they should learn the principles of the sciences. Then, if they find some of the scholars who follow the old method, they should study with them, learning grammar, morphology, hadith, tafsir, and so on, through personal study. As for these schools, they benefit them in no way.

The questioner : Well, O Shaykh, they say now that if you do not have a certificate, it is of no use.

The Shaykh : So what?

The questioner : So it is of no use. For example, a man now is of no use for a job, and they do not give him a position.

The Shaykh : Nor should a student of knowledge seek any of that. He must combine a profession with his knowledge, as we say, so that he can be self-sufficient without relying on jobs. May Allah reward you.
