The Ruling on Wearing Black After the Period of Ihdad Ends

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
She says: If a woman has completed the months of the waiting period (‘iddah) and has not removed her black clothing, and she continues to wear it, is this permissible for her?

Answer:
If that is her custom, there is nothing wrong with it. However, if she intends to go beyond what Allah has prescribed regarding the continuation of grief and the continuation of ihdad, this is not permissible. She has no right to add to what Allah has prescribed. But if it is her custom to wear these clothes, and her intention is not to contravene the Shari’ah, but rather she likes black clothing, or the green clothing she used to wear, otherwise she should perfume herself and wear jewelry. Once the ihdad is over, she wore jewelry and perfumed herself; there is no blame on her for that. She may wear whatever she wishes, provided it is not with the intention of ihdad, for the ihdad has ended.
As for remaining in her state, not wearing beautiful clothes, not perfuming herself, not applying kohl, and going beyond four months and ten days; this is not permissible. This is a religious innovation (bid’ah) and an evil deed.
