Among the means of humility in prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Our sister says: While I am performing the prayers, I do not perform them with humility, and I am aware of this; I do not perform them with humility. Also, I rush through them and move a lot during them. Is there a sin on me for that, and does it diminish my reward in them, knowing that this is beyond my control?
Answer:
It is obligatory for you to have tranquility; tranquility is necessary in the prayer. You must bow with tranquility, rise with tranquility, stand upright with tranquility, and prostrate with tranquility until every vertebra returns to its place. You sit between the two prostrations with tranquility. If it is possible to increase in humility, tranquility, presence of heart, and to increase in glorification during prostration and bowing, and to make much supplication during prostration, that is more complete, while being cautious of intrusive thoughts.
If you feel something, seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Mu'minun:1-2]. Striving is necessary, and Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says: [Al-'Ankabut:69]. So the man and the woman must take care of the prayer, strive for humility in it, and maintain tranquility, and perform the prescribed acts of dhikr and supplication. In bowing, one says: "Glory be to my Lord, the Most Great; Glory be to my Lord, the Most Great," three times, or more, and it is obligatory to say it once. And one says: "Glory be to You, O Allah, our Lord, and praise be to You; O Allah, forgive me." All of this is prescribed. In prostration as well, one says: "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High; Glory be to my Lord, the Most High," three times, or more, and it is obligatory to say it once. One should make much supplication in prostration, and say: "Glory be to You, O Allah, our Lord, and praise be to You; O Allah, forgive me" in prostration, just as in bowing. And one says: "The One who purifies, the Holy, Lord of the angels and the Spirit" in prostration, just as one says in bowing.
So the point is: it is the Sunnah for the believer to strive to perform the prescribed acts, along with the obligation of tranquility. Tranquility is necessary between bowing and prostration, between the two prostrations, and after bowing when one stands upright. Tranquility is necessary, and with this, increasing in humility, and increasing in glorification in bowing and prostration, and sufficing with supplication in prostration. All of this is prescribed.
