The first question of Fatwa No. ( 16362 )
Q 1: What is the ruling on khushu' (humility) in prayer and how do I respond to those who say: that khushu' in prayer is a recommended practice (sunnah) and not obligatory?
A 1 : Khushu' is of two types: obligatory and recommended. The obligatory type is: tranquility in all the actions of the prayer until one completes it, and this is what is meant in the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Mu'minun 23:1-2] , and this is what is meant in the hadith of the one who performed his prayer poorly. The recommended type is: taking care to complete the prayer and performing what is recommended in it of actions and words. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
