Question:
A message was sent by a listener who referred to himself by the letters (M) and (Z), saying: I heard that one who severs family ties will not enter Paradise. My question: I have relatives, but these relatives seek to harm me, and they have sought to harm me several times, to the extent that they performed sorcery on me. Should I sever ties with them, or should I maintain ties with them? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
As for the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Abi Dawud 1696Sahih (Al-Albani), severing family ties is among the major sins, the major sins being among the causes of being deprived of entering Paradise, unless Allah forgives its perpetrator. So severing ties is among the wrongs and major sins. Fear Allah and do not sever ties with them; rather, make peace with them. The claim that they are performing sorcery on you may be a false claim with no basis; it may be delusions with no evidence. Fear Allah, and hold yourself to account. If they transgress against you, you may be lenient, and you may dispute with them and file a complaint against them in the court. Do not sever family ties merely out of desire, or whispers, or claims with no basis. Fear Allah and maintain your family ties, unless they sever ties with you, refuse to let you come to them, and do not allow you to visit them. In that case, you are excused. But as long as they do not prevent you, you must maintain ties with them and do good to them, even if they do evil to you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 5991. A man came to him and said: O Messenger of Allah! I have relatives whom I maintain ties with, but they sever ties with me; I do good to them, but they do evil to me; I am patient with them, but they are rude to me. He said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih Muslim 2558a -al-mal means: hot embers-Sahih Muslim 2558a.
So the believer maintains ties with his relatives, and if they sever ties with him, he does good to them. He addresses matters if they stem from hostility by dealing with them through wisdom, or by interposing good and righteous people. He does not persist in severing ties. He addresses matters... unless they are upon religious innovations or apparent sins and do not repent. In that case, you may leave them, and you may boycott them. But for the sake of the hostility between you and them, you must address it through wisdom, good conduct, and by interposing good people, until the hostility is removed and love and maintaining ties take its place.
The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.

As for the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Anyone who cuts off relationship from his nearest relatives will not enter Paradise.
لا يدخل الجنة قاطع رحمAl-Wasil is not the one who recompenses the good done to him by his relatives, but Al-Wasil is the one who keeps good relations with those relatives who had severed the bond of kinship with him.
ليس الواصل بالمكافي، ولكن الواصل الذي إذا قطعت رحمه وصلهاIf it is so as you say, then you in fact throw hot ashes
لئن كنت كما قلت فكأنما تسفهم الملthere would always remain with you on behalf of Allah (an Angel to support you) who would keep you dominant over them so long as you adhere to this (path of righteousness).
