Severing family ties

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 3631 )
Q 2: Much of what we see among our brothers is that the bond of kinship has been severed, whether they are in dispute or in agreement. Is the ruling for one who is negligent regarding the bond of kinship due to the busyness of worldly affairs the same as that for one who intentionally severs it, in terms of sin?
A 2: Severing family ties is forbidden, indeed it is among the major sins. It is obligatory for the Muslim to maintain the bond of kinship to the extent that is easy for him, even if it is only by visiting, with a pleasant face and kind words, or by writing and corresponding, whether there is a dispute between them or not. The best of the two is the one who initiates the bond of kinship. A dispute or the busyness of worldly affairs should not prevent him from doing so. However, the one who intentionally severs the bond of kinship is not like the one who is negligent regarding it due to the abundance of worldly busyness in terms of sin.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
