Ruling on severing ties with a paternal uncle

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The first message in this episode is from one of our brother listeners. The sender, (R. S.) from Jazan, says: “We have a paternal uncle whom we have cut off for various reasons, some of which are disobedience to Allah, and others relate to maintaining family ties and the division of inheritance, and so on. He asks for your guidance regarding your stance toward your paternal uncle; how should it be in the correct manner? May Allah reward you with good.”

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows.
It is obligatory for the believer to maintain family ties with his relatives, his father, his grandfathers, his children, his brothers, his paternal uncles, and others, starting with the closest. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in an authentic hadith:
Al-Wasil is not the one who recompenses the good done to him by his relatives, but Al-Wasil is the one who keeps good relations with those relatives who had severed the bond of kinship with him.ليس الواصل بالمكافي، ولكن الواصل الذي إذا قطعت رحمه وصلها
Sahih al-Bukhari 5991
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Anyone who cuts off relationship from his nearest relatives will not enter Paradise.لا يدخل الجنة قاطع رحم
Sunan Abi Dawud 1696Sahih (Al-Albani)
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Anyone who wants to have his provision expanded and his term of life prolonged should maintain ties of kinship.من أحب أن يبسط له في رزقه، وأن ينسأ له في أجله فليصل رحمه
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 56
. So if your paternal uncle has cut off the family tie, do not cut him off; because a paternal uncle is in the position of a father.
So what is prescribed for you, indeed what is obligatory upon you, is to maintain the family tie and be kind to him, with good words, greetings, and supporting him if he is poor and you are able. And if he is committing a sin, advise him, direct him to good, and teach him what benefits him, so

advise him, and explain to him the prohibition of what he did if you are knowledgeable, and cooperate with your good brothers among his neighbors or his loved ones or his brothers in advising him, so that perhaps he will respond to you and leave what Allah has forbidden for him, and you will have a reward like his.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If anyone summons other to follow right guidance, his reward will be equivalent to that of the people who follow himمن دعا إلى هدى كان له من الأجر مثل أجور من تبعه
Sunan Abi Dawud 4609Sahih (Al-Albani)
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer.من دل على خير فله مثل أجر فاعله
Sahih Muslim 1893a
. So you are on the right path; advise him, direct him, and maintain the family tie. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
