The Reality of Exaggeration and Extremism Prohibited in the Religion

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the exaggeration prohibited in the religion?

Answer:
Exaggeration is extremism and rigidity. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
beware of exaggeration in religious matters for those who came before you were doomed because of exaggeration in religious mattersإياكم والغلو في الدين؛ فإنما أهلك من كان قبلكم الغلو في الدين
Sunan Ibn Majah 3029Sahih (Darussalam)
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The extremists are destroyed! The extremists are destroyed! The extremists are destroyed!هلك المتنطعون! هلك المتنطعون! هلك المتنطعون
He said it three times—(peace and blessings be upon him)—meaning: going beyond what Allah has prescribed. This exaggeration goes beyond what Allah has prescribed. Among such things are: building on graves, making mosques on them, and praying at them. This is an addition to what Allah has prescribed. Allah has prescribed visiting them and making du'a for their inhabitants for forgiveness and mercy. However, building mosques or domes on them is one of the means of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and is forbidden. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) condemned this and cursed the Jews and Christians for doing it.
Praying at graves is one of the means of extremism in them and shirk (associating partners with Allah). This is like going beyond what Allah has prescribed, such as performing wudu' (ablution) more than three times. This is an addition to what Allah has prescribed. Similarly, using in one's prayer what Allah has not prescribed, other than adding to the wudu', but rather using things Allah has not prescribed in one's prayer, such as bowing in a way that harms oneself or the ma'mum (those praying behind the imam), or prostrating in a way that harms oneself or the ma'mum. Rather, one should be moderate and seek moderation.
Moderation in worship is what is required, and not being excessive, neither with the ma'mum nor with oneself. Similarly, fasting constantly and not breaking the fast, and praying the entire night, all of this is exaggeration. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited this—(peace and blessings be upon him)—and said:
The overzealous have perishedهلك المتنطعون
And he prohibited seclusion (tibatil). All of this is due to the great harm in seclusion and exaggeration. Yes.
