The Ruling on a Woman Shaking Hands with Her Paternal Cousin, Maternal Uncle, and Fiancé

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it considered forbidden for a girl to shake hands with one of her relatives, such as her paternal cousin, her maternal cousin, her father’s paternal cousin, her mother’s paternal cousin, or her fiancé?

Answer:
Yes, it is not permissible for a woman to shake hands with anyone who is not a mahram (a relative one may not marry) or with other women. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
But I do not shake hands with women.إني لا أصافح النساء
Sunan Ibn Majah 2874Sahih (Darussalam)
And Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: By Allah, the hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never touched the hand of a woman—meaning other than his mahrams. He only pledged allegiance to them through speech. Therefore, a woman must not shake hands with her paternal cousin, nor with her fiancé before the marriage contract is concluded. She must not shake hands with her maternal cousin, nor with her maternal aunt’s son, nor with any of her neighbors, nor with her husband’s brother, nor with her sister’s husband. She is not permitted to do so because they are not mahrams. Yes.
